The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) is now accepting applications for its Farmer-Led Trials (FLT) Program for the 2026 season.

Whether you’re an organic or transitioning farmer or rancher, this program offers a unique opportunity to tackle production challenges through on-farm research, technical support and funding. Applications are open from October 15 through December 3, 2025.

Empowering farmers to lead research

OFRF’s Farmer-Led Trials Program puts farmers and ranchers at the center of agricultural innovation. Participants design and conduct their own on-farm experiments to test new practices, inputs, crop varieties or animal breeds that can improve profitability, soil health and long-term sustainability.

OFRF provides hands-on guidance every step of the way, from research design and data collection to analysis and interpretation. Each participant receives financial support to help offset costs and access to a network of peers working toward similar goals.

Building on growing success

Now entering its third year, the FLT program continues to expand its reach and impact. Past participants have explored topics ranging from soil health amendments to weed management strategies and organic pest control, all guided by the unique conditions of their farms.

In addition to financial and technical support, growers gain confidence in applying research principles that make their results meaningful and replicable. The goal is to empower producers to think like researchers and share insights that can benefit the wider organic sector.
