Modern Soils has announced that its mushroom compost has been listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute, making it the only U.S.-manufactured Agaricus mushroom compost currently included on the OMRI Products List.

OMRI listing provides third-party verification that products comply with the USDA National Organic Program standards for use in certified organic production. Organic growers, handlers and certifiers use the OMRI Products List to identify approved inputs.

CJ Ciarrocchi, president and CEO of Modern Soils and Modern Mushroom Farms, said the designation confirms the product meets organic compliance requirements.

“Receiving OMRI listing for our mushroom compost marks a significant milestone for Modern Soils,” Ciarrocchi said. “Organic growers depend on products that meet strict compliance standards.”

The compost is derived from spent mushroom substrate and processed through a high-temperature composting system designed to meet OMRI criteria. The company said the product is intended to improve soil structure, support microbial activity and enhance long-term soil fertility.

OMRI listing is often considered a key step for companies seeking access to certified organic markets, particularly as demand for approved soil amendments continues to grow.
