How Prairie Organic Spirits celebrated Earth Day
Amidst everything that’s currently going on in the world, it’s important to take a moment, especially on Earth Day, to think about our planet, climate action and ways we can sustainably support it during a time when it matters most. One area that’s been hit hard as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, is the farming industry where farmers across the U.S. are disposing of fresh produce, dairy and meat due to the lack of grocery stores, schools and restaurants being open and/or needing the amounts they usually require.
Prairie Organic Spirits, the #1 USDA-certified organic spirits brand in the U.S., has been and continues to be on the front lines in supporting American organic farmers and the industry. In honor of Earth Day’s 50th anniversary and the focus on climate action, Prairie Organic Spirits continues to implement initiatives to support the industry and planet, and has shifted the focus slightly, given the current climate of our country. Following are a number of ways the brand is involved:
- Maximizing Renewable Energy: Organic farming is widely considered to be a far more sustainable alternative when it comes to food production, as it uses less energy, releases fewer carbon emissions and doesn’t leach toxic chemicals into waterways. Prairie Organic Spirits and its farmers are dedicated in doing right by the land, using the fewest natural resources possible, as well as energy. In fact, Prairie Organic Vodka is certified by Connexus Energy for using 100% renewable energy in the distillation process.
- Using the Fewest Natural Resources Possible: Prairie Organic Spirits works with a Minnesota co-op of family farmers who don’t compromise to keep things free – free of harmful chemicals, gluten and GMOs. Each farms’ climate, soil, and moisture levels give each small batch its own distinct character and taste – making each bottle truly unique. The brand strives to handcraft organic, award-winning spirits using the fewest natural resources possible and shares success with the people and communities that make it possible.
- Supporting the Future of Organic Farming: Serving a purpose is at the core of Prairie Organic Spirits, which is why they’ve partnered with the Rodale Institute in support of the Spirit of Change Fund and the Next Generation Scholarship Program – an initiative, now in its second year, that champions the next generation of organic farmers by helping more farmers go organic. By donating 1% of all sales, Prairie Organic Spirits is advancing this mission to help make a better future for our land and farmers.
Today, it’s more important than ever to support local farmers. Prairie Organic Spirits’ funding has enabled Rodale Institute’s interns to support those on the front lines by continuing to produce nutritious produce that’s then donated to families in need across the U.S. through CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares. Since the beginning of the year, the interns have supported 75 families in need and supplies produce to local farmers’ markets each week.
