U.S. sales of certified organic products reached $76.6 billion in 2025, growing 6.8% over the previous year and outpacing the overall marketplace, which expanded 3.4%, according to the 2026 Organic Market Report released March 4 by the Organic Trade Association (OTA).

Organic has now grown faster than the total market for three consecutive years.

“For the third year in a row, organic has grown faster than the total market, which indicates shoppers are prioritizing their health and the planet, and are willing to pay a premium for it,” said Tom Chapman, OTA co-chief executive officer.

Organic food sales totaled $70.1 billion, representing a 6.1% share of total U.S. food sales. Food sales rose 6.9% in 2025, compared with 2.3% growth in the overall food market. Nonfood organic products — including textiles, dietary supplements, personal care and pet food — accounted for $6.5 billion in sales.

Produce remained the top organic category at $22.7 billion, up 5.3% and accounting for nearly 30% of total organic sales. Berry sales climbed 10.5% to $4.4 billion. Citrus sales rose 18.1%, while bananas increased 12.6%, surpassing $1 billion.

Organic grocery sales reached $15.7 billion, up 4.2%. Baby food and formula grew 8.8%, and dried beans, fruits and vegetables rose 13.6%.

Organic beverages posted $10.2 billion in sales, increasing 7.2%. Dairy and egg sales rose 12.8% to $9.6 billion, including a 22.4% jump in organic egg sales amid continued impacts from avian influenza.

Organic beef recorded the largest percentage gain of any category, rising 44.3% to more than $1.4 billion, driven largely by imports.

“Organic has unique assets for growth, notably that the USDA Organic seal has strong consumer recognition and the highest level of trust in a certification,” said Matthew Dillon, OTA co-chief executive officer.

The report projects organic sales will grow at a compound annual rate of 5.6%, adding an estimated $24 billion over the next five years. OTA forecasts total organic sales will surpass $100 billion by 2030.
