Organic weed control session planned

The Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) Annual Conference, “Reclaiming Resilience,” coming Jan. 16-18 will feature a short course on organic weed control.

“For experienced farmers and newcomers alike, managing weeds is one of the biggest production challenges in organic cropping systems,” according to a PFI’s description of the course. “But weeds can be controlled with a variety of tactics.”

The course will feature a session presented by Vegetable Growers News columnist Sam Hitchock Tilton, who will discuss mechanical weed control and weed ecology. Other sessions planned include electric weed control, flame weed control, diversified weed control and using different weed control systems.

The event will be held at the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center, 1805 Center Drive, Ames, Iowa.
