Biobest launches new packaging for Aphidoletes aphidimyza delivery
The updated system is designed to enhance handling, support beneficial insect activity and fit within sustainable crop protection strategies.
Biobest has introduced new packaging for its Aphidoletes-System it says is designed to support population development of Aphidoletes aphidimyza, a biological predator used in aphid control.

The gall midge Aphidoletes aphidimyza is a natural predator of aphids. Females locate aphid infestations within crops and lay eggs in those areas. After hatching, the larvae feed on various aphid species. A single larva can consume many aphids during its development. Aphidoletes does not cause leaf damage or gall formation.
The updated packaging from Biobest includes a yellow sugar strip intended to provide a food source for newly emerged adult midges. This can support adult lifespan, mobility and reproduction, which may contribute to faster establishment in specialty crops.
The sugar source may also be accessible to other beneficial insects such as parasitoid wasps, hoverflies, and lacewings.
Biobest says the new packaging is designed to support emergence, enhance mating conditions and aid population establishment across generations.
The system is made from paper-based materials and is recyclable. It includes a push-to-open mechanism and a hook for placement in crops or tree fruit and vineyard orchards. The design is intended to support correct positioning and distribution during application.
