USApple report shows apple holdings continue falling
U.S. apple storage numbers continue their seasonal declines. The national volume, however, is higher than the five-year average for the month, according to the latest USApple report.
On June 10, the U.S. Apple Association via its USAppleTracker report reported the total number of apples in storage on June 1 was 54 million bushels, 5% less than last June’s total of 57 million bushels and 17% higher than the five-year average for that date.
Fresh apple holdings in June totaled 40 million bushels, 2% less than the inventories reported for last June and 22% more than the June five-year average.
Processing holdings totaled 15 million bushels, 13% less than last year on June 1 and 7% more than the June five-year average.
Six of the seven top apple producing states — Washington, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, California and Virginia — reported decreasing storage volume for the time period, while Oregon reported an increase from 459,000 bushels to 748,000 bushels. The majority of other producing states, except for New Hampshire, also saw storage declines.
