Penn State issues updated Organic Crop Production Guide
The updated Organic Crop Production Guide is now available from Penn State Extension. The guide, made for commercial growers who are interested in organic crop production, contains chapters contributed by Penn State faculty and Extension personnel, as well as industry experts.
Chapters in the guide include an introduction to the National Organic Program Standards and regulations, maintaining organic integrity, marketing organic crops, templates for creating organic enterprise budgets, and details about organic farming practices.
Chapters on crop production and management include soil properties, health, and fertility; cover crops and crop rotations; grain crops and forages; and weed, insect, and disease pest management. Included in the chapters are examples of successful practices used by organic crop farmers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
