Applications open for 2026 Good Farmer Award U.S.

Rodale Institute logo. The Good Farmer Award U.S. celebrates the next generation of regenerative organic farmers and inspires innovation, collaboration, and sustainability in American agriculture. By highlighting those making measurable impacts in their communities, Rodale Institute and Davines aim to build a more resilient, equitable and climate-smart future.

Recognizing early-career regenerative farmers

Now in its second year, the award spotlights farmers who have been in operation for 10 years or less and who demonstrate commitment to soil health, biodiversity and community well-being.

Applicants will be evaluated across three categories:

  • Environmental impact — Practices such as cover cropping, reduced tillage and agroforestry.
  • Community engagement — Initiatives like CSAs, direct-to-consumer sales and food access programs.
  • Equipment and infrastructure — Tools or systems that improve regenerative outcomes.

Award prizes and timeline

The grand prize winner will receive $10,000 for on-farm investments and an all-expenses-paid trip (valued at approximately $5,000) to the European Regenerative Organic Center (EROC) in Parma, Italy.

Second place will receive $5,000 and a trip to Rodale Institute’s headquarters in Pennsylvania. The third-place winner earns access to Rodale’s online education programs and free registration to the institute’s annual field day.

Applications are open through January 16, 2026, at 11 p.m. ET. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2026.

Encouraging innovation and resilience

Rodale Institute and Davines North America launched the award to elevate beginning farmers pursuing holistic, science-based methods that restore ecosystems while supporting local food systems. The program aims to inspire bold innovation and long-term thinking in regenerative agriculture.

How to apply

Eligible farmers can submit an online application. Applicants should describe their farm or ranch, current regenerative practices and plans for using award funds. Supporting materials — such as photos, short bios and reference letters — are encouraged. Certification is not required.
