Organic Trade Association asks for Farm Bill action
The Organic Trade Association noted its disappointment that Congress did not reauthorize the Farm Bill by its expiration at the end of September.
Association CEO Tom Chapman released a statement that the Farm Bill is a critical — and usually bipartisan — bill that “charts the course for the nation’s agriculture and nutrition programs, and is key to the continued success of the organic marketplace.”
The Organic Trade Association is asking Congress to act immediately and work on the legislation.
“Important updates to organic regulation need to be made, supportive research and risk management tools to organic farmers must be provided, and policies that strengthen the resiliency of the organic supply chain must be implemented,” according to Chapman’s statement. “We urge lawmakers to seriously deliberate and complete a new Farm Bill before the end of the year to avoid harmful disruptions in the organic and agriculture sectors.”
