NOP webinar to preview Organic Enforcement Proposed Rule

The USDA National Organic Program’s (NOP) Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) proposed rule will be the subject of a webinar this week.

The proposed rule will be published soon in the Federal Register, according to a newsletter from the NOP. But prior to that publication, the program will hold an informational webinar to provide an overview of the proposed changes and how they may impact organic farms and businesses.

Here are details of the webinar from NOP:

Proposed Rule Impact

Stronger market oversight is needed to protect businesses and consumers who choose the organic option, according to the NOP’s newsletter. This proposed rule significantly updates the USDA organic regulations to strengthen oversight and enforcement throughout the organic supply chain. SOE will implement provisions in the 2018 Farm Bill and address recommendations from the National Organic Standards Board and the USDA Office of Inspector General.

When the proposed rule is published in the Federal Register, a 60-day comment period will begin, and the NOP will then send another newsletter with details on how to submit comments.
