Northeast SARE offers $250,000 to $500,000 Farming Community grants
Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) is accepting proposals for its Farming Community Grant Program, with $1.5 million allocated for projects requesting $250,000 to $500,000 each. Applications are due at 4 p.m. ET Oct. 26.
The program supports multistate and regional projects focused on regenerative and sustainable agriculture at the intersection of nutrition and health and/or people, animals and pathogens. Projects must engage farming communities in the Northeast, which includes 12 states and Washington, D.C.
Eligible projects may address marketing and business, crop production, livestock, aquaculture, economic and social sustainability, and ecological knowledge. The program emphasizes projects with farmer impact and results that can be replicated or adapted by other farmers and farming communities.
Farms, farmers, farm employees and farming community groups are among those eligible to lead projects. Other eligible project leaders include personnel at nonprofits, agricultural businesses, colleges and universities, Cooperative Extension, municipalities and government agencies. Host organizations must be able to cover at least the first two months of project expenses because the grants are reimbursement-based. Matching funds are not required.
Projects may last up to three years and must conclude by Nov. 30, 2030. Northeast SARE estimated that approximately 12.72% of submitted Farming Community proposals are funded.
Applicant Q&A sessions are scheduled for 4 p.m. ET Sept. 1, 10 a.m. ET Sept. 23 and noon ET Oct. 14. Registration is required for each session. Final award decisions are expected in mid- to late February 2027.
