New Jersey Farmers Market Week promotes vegetables
New Jersey Farmers Market Week highlights peak vegetable season.
New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Ed Wengryn recently visited the Ocean City Farmers Market to kick off the 25th Annual National Farmers Market Week, running Aug. 4-10.
The week is to spotlight local markets during peak vegetable season.
“August is ideal for Jersey Fresh vegetables like tomatoes and sweet corn,” Wengryn said. “Farmers markets offer fresh, high-quality produce and a chance to connect with local growers.”
New Jersey hosts about 140 community and 700 independent farmers markets, where vegetables are often sold within 24 hours of harvest. The Ocean City Market, in operation for 30 years, runs Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon at the Ocean City Tabernacle grounds.
