Crop-Scanner update adds GPS-enabled scouting and satellite imagery

< 1 minute read

Biobest has added GPS-enabled capabilities to its Crop-Scanner digital scouting tool, including location-aware scouting, automated observation recording and satellite imagery for production sites.

The update introduces Geo Scout, which connects field observations with their locations and shows teams where observations were made and which areas have been covered. Positioning precision depends on the device and available GPS signal.

Scout Activity tracks coverage and performance

A new Scout Activity web feature allows users to review time spent scouting, walking speed and area coverage for individual scouting sessions. Biobest said the information can help growers managing multiple scouts or large production areas evaluate scouting consistency and coverage.

“For growers managing multiple scouts, or large production areas, this provides a clear overview of scouting performance,” Jolien Bisschop, product manager High-Tech IPM & Nematodes at Biobest, said. “It helps identify opportunities to improve efficiency and maintain consistent scouting standards.”

The update also adds Geo Scout Multi-Post Scouting. Previously, scouts manually selected each post while moving through a crop. The GPS-enabled feature automatically records observations at predefined intervals as the scout moves through the crop, allowing multiple posts to be monitored during one scouting pass.

Satellite imagery adds field context

Crop-Scanner users can also access satellite imagery across most rural production sites. The aerial maps are intended to help users locate crops, interpret Geo Scout observations and navigate production areas. The imagery appears automatically in locations where satellite maps are supported and does not require additional configuration.
